I think one of the saddest things about the overexposure of disneynetflikwb etc properties is that film enjoyment/media consumption is no longer a hobby for people who just love movies. this was especially exacerbated by the pandemic which forced everyone indoors, and everyone, including casual “two movies a year” movie-goers were forced to turn to their screens as their only source of entertainment. now you have this wave of anti-intellectualism from people who only watch movies just to passthetimenumbthepaineasetheboredom talking about how attempts to make art from film is worthless because it is unimportant to them (the majority!). in response to actual film lovers who just want to stop being drowned by all the mindless garbage and want to be able to access something challenging. by filmmakers who want to MAKE something challenging. they take it as a personal attack, hidden behind shallow arguments that “the Hollywood film canon is white/sexist/elitist anyway” while not using their internet connection to seek out any kind of diverse storytelling, the weaponisation of representation/identity politics, stubbornly saying “the ~~~~cinematography~~~~ in marvel movies is actually so good”. you cunts don’t even like movies yet you insist on being part of the conversation because what else is there to do.
It's funny because there was a historical period where photographic evidence was generally considered reliable and that period is over.
because they clearly are? use your damn eyeballs
